Live A Life Of Balance - Now

My son climbed on the teeter-totter at the playground the other day and begged me to join him. Now, I'm no physicist, but I did make several convincing yet unproductive arguments as to why it wouldn't work. Finally I got on the apparatus and demonstrated our dilemma. A teeter-totter requires balance, and my adult body outweighed his.

Here are 10 tips to help you achieve the nirvana-like state of mutually inspiring work life balance. And yes it IS possible, as I know from 12 plus years coaching high-performers to achieve more while having & enjoying a life!



Messages on the office phone, cluttered e-mail accounts and the ever present need to always organize and re-organize the office can get in the way of business basics. I have several software productivity applications that takes care of these things for me. I structure what I do around this and I owe the late Steve Jobs a lot for creating the whole Apple line of products. These gadgets may worth the investment but they simply make everything done faster and more efficient. Remember, the success of your business depends on the satisfaction of your clients. So if you'll need to spend on something for your personal growth, knowledge and technology to help you get the job done and make your clients satisfies, I recommend you to get started with it right away.

Evaluate your plan. Are you meeting the needs you identified? Do the priorities feel right? Are you able to focus mindfully? Can you shift from one activity to another, seamlessly? Is anything missing or unnecessary? Do you feel happy and fulfilled at the end of the week? With the answers to these questions, decide how you want to modify your plan. Try your revised plan next week.

We all do things that take up precious time. Who hasn't taken a quick break to check out Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and various websites. They can be good ways to relax... in moderation. If those things are taking up big chunks of time (and, believe me, they can), try to avoid giving them your attention. Before long, you can find that you are saving yourself a lot of time by focusing on what needs to be done rather than the puppy photos in your News Feed.



Me: "No way in heck am I going to paint another wall or get friendly with a 10-foot pole to reach those crevices." Especially since this is the third house I've had to paint within 2 years.

There is no perfect. Your balance isn't static, and it isn't perfect. When you consider work-life balance to be a journey, you will have a healthy approach to it. While judgment gets in the way, so does comparison. People often look at others who appear to have the 'ideal` balance and try to emulate them. This is also a mistake because your balance must be based on your values (more on this in a second) and your needs. You won`t reach your perfect by emulating someone else.

Don't blame the company for your late night work as it's solely lack of planning and time management on your part. This does not imply that professional people are averse to working long hours. But, the term work-life balance should be highlighted website in the dictionary of life. Some of the most successful people in the world including actors, white-collar professionals, politicians and others are those who balance their work and life perfectly.
